Pregnancy Acne - Beauty Spots of Pregnancy

As the name suggests acne that occur during pregnancy is called pregnancy acne. If not all, quite a number of women suffer from acne during their pregnancy. So if you thought you have left behind the acne as you are out of the teens, you can think again, your pregnancy might once again bring back this nightmare.

If you already suffer from adult acne, then your chances of getting acne during pregnancy increase. But pregnancy acne gradually fades away by second or third trimester. So if you have been suffering from adult acne, the good news is that you will get a spotless skin during the second half of your pregnancy.

The root cause of any acne is hormonal change. Like for teenagers it is the testosterone that causes acne and pimples, for pregnant women its progesterone that causes the problem. A lot of progesterone is released in order to keep the embryo safe. Progesterone in turn activates the sebaceous gland, leading to over production of sebum, and eruption of acne.

Apart from progesterone, the other factor that causes acne during pregnancy is dehydration. Females tend to dehydrate a lot during pregnancy, and dehydration, or lack of water in the body, is a major reason for acne. So avoiding dehydration will although not prevent acne, but definitely reduce the intensity.
